A high-speed pursuit that began in Greenbrier County came to a screeching halt after racing down the streets of Hinton. Officers from multiple agencies pursued the vehicle, identified as a Ford Ranger, attempting to get the driver to stop. The driver was later identified as Leevi Alan Meadows, 20, of Rainelle.
According to the criminal complaint, officers attempted a spike strip stop; however, the attempt failed. The complaint further states that officers witnessed the vehicle operating with no headlamps or tail lamps illuminated even though the incident took place before sunrise.
Additionally, the complaint states that officers witnessed the vehicle consistently and significantly exceeding the posted speed limit. At one point, officers noted the vehicle was traveling at speeds greater than 100 MPH.
After reaching Hinton, the criminal complaint states that Meadows proceeded to go the wrong way down both Temple and Summers Streets, both one-way streets. Once officers were able to stop the vehicle on Summers Street, they told Meadows to step out. The criminal complaint notes that Meadows did not willingly do so.
Following Meadows’ arrest, officers discovered that he did not have insurance on the vehicle.
In a press release posted to Facebook, the Summers County Sheriff’s Department stated, “Team 900 is proud to say that no officers or any member of the public were harmed during the course of the pursuit.”
At the time of writing, Meadows is residing in Southern Regional Jail, facing a multitude of charges. His bail has been set at $22,000.
