Shenandoah

FAIRLEA- For nearly four decades, Shenandoah has remained one of country music’s most beloved vocal groups, earning a reputation for heartfelt songs, rich harmonies and timeless storytelling. Formed in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, in the mid-1980s, the band rose to national prominence with the release of its second album, The Road Not Taken, which produced the Top 10 hits “She Doesn’t Cry Anymore” and “Mama Knows.” Led by the unmistakable voice of Marty Raybon, Shenandoah quickly became one of the defining acts of late-1980s and early-1990s country music.

The band’s success continued with a string of No. 1 singles, including “The Church on Cumberland Road,” “Sunday in the South,” “Two Dozen Roses,” “Next to You, Next to Me,” and “If Bubba Can Dance (I Can Too).” Their music, often centered on faith, family and small-town values, resonated with fans across the country. Among the group’s many milestones are winning the Academy of Country Music’s Vocal Group of the Year in 1991 and earning a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart,” their acclaimed duet with Alison Krauss. Original members Marty Raybon and Mike McGuire have reunited to continue the band’s legacy, bringing its classic sound to longtime fans and new audiences alike.

Fans will have the opportunity to hear those classic hits live when Shenandoah performs at the State Fair of West Virginia on Tuesday, Aug. 18, as part of the fair’s 2026 concert lineup.

With a setlist filled with hit songs and a career spanning nearly 40 years, Shenandoah’s appearance should be a memorable evening celebrating one of country music’s most enduring and influential groups.
