SUMMERS COUNTY W.Va. (Hinton News) – A Summers County teacher has been placed on administrative leave while the school board investigates a social media post containing anti-religious and anti-Republican rhetoric.

The teacher removed the post after it sparked outrage and calls for action from the community.

According to a report from WVVA, Summers County Schools Superintendent Dave Warvel expressed disappointment over the post, stating it doesn’t reflect the school system’s values.

The post reportedly included comments like “Religion is the root of all evil” and “Republicans are what is wrong with education.”

Warvel reportedly noted that all Summers County teachers are required to take an online course on responsible social media use, which the teacher in question had completed.

At the time of writing, the investigation into the post is ongoing following the regularly scheduled school board meeting that was held on Nov. 12
