LEWISBURG W.Va. (Hinton News) – Carnegie Hall’s three rotating galleries open Friday, Jan. 5, with winter exhibits by Andrea Brunais (Old Stone Room), Charles Ferguson (Lobby Gallery), and Jim Costa and Builder Levy (Museum Gallery).
The Old Stone Room, located on the ground floor of Carnegie Hall, will feature “Color That Sings” by Andrea Brunais. A veteran journalist, author, poet, and photographer, Brunais earned a B.A. in mass communications from the University of South Florida. She is a juried artist at Tamarack and has studied with online instructors and pastel artists Alain Picard (Painterly Landscape Course), Marla Baggetta (Trees in Pastel Workshop and Abstract in Pastel), and impressionist Susan Jenkins of Café Monet. Her work has been exhibited widely in southwest Virginia and southern West Virginia.
Charles “Butch” Ferguson will be featured in the Auditorium Lobby Gallery. He is a self-taught artist who enjoyed a studio at The Greenbrier for many years. His work has been showcased in the West Virginia Cultural Center at the State Capital and the Best of West Virginia at Tamarack. One of his decoy carvings was presented to the then Vice-President, George Bush 1988 by then Governor Arch Moore as a gift from the State of West Virginia.
The Museum Gallery (adjacent to the Hamilton Auditorium) will house a collaborative exhibit of work by Jim Costa and Builder Levy.
Jim Costa is an old-time musician/storyteller from Summers County, West Virginia. In his spare time, he runs Elderhostel programs specializing in early American woodworking and blacksmithing tools.
Builder Levy’s work has appeared in more than two hundred exhibitions, including over fifty one-person shows. His photographs appear in more than fifty public collections around the world. He has been awarded fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, the Alicia Patterson Foundation, the Puffin Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and two commissions from the Appalachia College Association. He lives in New York City.
