HINTON (Hinton News) – A Summers County woman, Myrtle Brabb, is turning 105 on July 4. Hinton Hope Foundation recently placed a request via Facebook asking community members to send her birthday cards. She currently resides at Main Street Care in Hinton.
Brabb is a lifelong resident of Summers County and will be celebrating an incredible milestone on her upcoming birthday. After beating COVID-19 twice in 2020, Brabb is turning 105 years old on July 4. According to her niece, Juanita Brooks, she has always loved to cook and bake. Some of her favorite things to bake were pies and applesauce cakes to give people at Christmas time.
Additionally, Brabb loved birds and cared for several throughout the years. She taught them to say phrases such as “Give me a kiss” and “Pete’s a pretty boy.” Her niece noted that spending time talking to birds was the highlight of her day, and she often spent hours with them.
Brabb attended Riverview Chaple and loved working in her garden. According to Brooks, she never had any major health problems.
Brooks moved to Summers County in 2004 to care for Brabb. She said, “She was like a mother to me.”
An invitation has been sent to West Virginia Governor Justice to help celebrate Brabb’s birthday. There has been no confirmation at the time of writing.
In their post requesting cards for Brabb, Hinton Hope Foundation refers to her as a “treasure.” If you would like to help Brabb celebrate this momentous birthday, mail her a birthday card addressed to Myrtle Brabb, Main Street Care, PO Box 7, Hinton, WV 25951.
