HINTON, (Hinton News) – Officers responded to a call in Bellepoint Park for reports of a child struck by a vehicle on Thursday, May 11. Following an investigation, officers arrested Elizabeth Kathleen Oliveros, 39, of Hinton.
According to the criminal complaint, Oliveros allegedly told officers she was leaving the park and hit a child. Reportedly, she also stated that she did not see the child or know she had struck them until another individual, later identified as the child’s grandmother, came out waving their arms.
The victim reportedly sustained several injuries, including cuts, abrasions and a possible fracture, according to the criminal complaint. Additionally, the victim was taken to Summers County ARH for care.
As detailed in the criminal complaint, officers asked Oliveros if she had been drinking or taking any substances, to which she allegedly replied that she had taken suboxone and smoked weed every day. Officers proceeded to direct Oliveros in multiple field sobriety tests. The complaint states that she showed impairment during each one.
After concluding the field sobriety tests, officers inquired about her driving record. Reportedly, her license is suspended with two prior convictions from 2011.
Oliveros was subsequently arrested and booked into Southern Regional Jail. At the time of writing, she remains in SRJ. Her bail has been set at $21,500.
