HINTON, (Hinton News) – Everything we need to sustain our lives comes from the earth. The water we drink, the air we breathe, the food we eat, the materials we use to build homes and heat our homes come from the earth. This planet is a living, breathing sphere of life!
Without this earth, there would be no life. Therefore, we celebrate its goodness. We also need to protect what it gives us. It is a fragile and delicate organism.
On April 22, from 1 till 3 in the afternoon at Bellepoint Park in Hinton we will celebrate. This will be an event filled with ideas, displays, food, animals, music, plants, tree seedlings and lots of fun for the whole family. It is all free and there are lots of give aways!
There are many ways to care for and invest in our planet. Lots of them involve simple ways as to how we live our lives.
They consist of eating habits, the ways we move from one point to another, the ways we shop and the ways we deal with out trash. The plant and animal life around us are so important. There are hundreds of simple things you can do to show your love for this earth!
It is important how we treat the animals that share this earth with us. At 2 PM there will be a service for the blessing of the animals. Bring your pets to be blessed and receive a St. Francis medallion. Animals must be caged or on a leash.
It’s a fun afternoon for the whole family and there are lots of activities for kids. There will be free books and stories read aloud. The bookmobile will be there. Kids will have a chance to make things – bird feeders and bookmarks. There will be a tattoo station for kids – or adults if you like!
Recycling is an important part of caring for the environment and the recyclers will be there. Also see displays on quilting (recycling cloth), homemade bags (recycling clothing) and weaving (recycling yarn).
What you eat is very important and makes a huge difference in the life of the earth. Taste and see how eating a more vegetable based diet can improve our lives.
Learn from displays by the Migration Center and the Sierra Club. You can take home a baby dogwood or willow sprouts that increase the oxygen content of our atmosphere.
We hope you join us in this celebration on the earth during the doming of spring! It’s an amazing earth!
