Bobby and Tabitha Kitts aren’t your typical entrepreneurs. They’re a Virginia family of six—four children aged 13 to 24, three boys and one girl—who juggle life between a bustling Chesterfield home and a thriving towing business in Richmond. At their side are five dogs, loyally tagging along as they chase a shared dream: Riverbend Family Campground is a unique refuge along 800-feet of the Greenbrier River in scenic Ronceverte, West Virginia.
The story begins with a far-reaching search.
For nearly 18 months, the Kitts crisscrossed Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee in pursuit of the perfect campground property. They visited promising locations, yet none carried the charm and the feeling they yearned for. Their quest then led them to West Virginia, where a serendipitous stop near Beckley altered the course of their lives.
“We spent three days exploring the area, visiting local shops, and talking with residents,” Tabitha recalls.
“We wanted to get a genuine feel for the community without mentioning our plans.”
It didn’t take long for them to realize they had found exactly what they had been searching for.
Riverbend sits proudly on the Greenbrier River, offering 20 full-hookup pull-through RV sites with 50-amp service. The river’s edge provides not just scenery but a living invitation to wildlife-watching, quiet afternoons, and family adventures. The couple emphasizes that the property’s natural beauty and the surrounding community’s warmth were the missing pieces they’d hoped to find.
“Camping has always been our favorite way to vacation,” Bobby explains.
“It’s affordable, it’s fun, and it creates opportunities for families to spend quality time together and build lasting memories.”
The dream of owning a campground grew from countless conversations about what families could share when they unplug from the pace of everyday life. When Riverbend finally opened its gates, it wasn’t just a business venture—it was the realization of a long-held belief in the power of nature to bring people closer.
Phase one is complete, but the Kitts aren’t resting on their laurels. “We put our heart into phase one, but just wait for phase two,” Tabitha hints, inviting visitors to anticipate the new activities and offerings on the horizon. Plans for growth include more family-friendly events and the introduction of tent sites starting next spring, expanding opportunities for guests to connect with the outdoors in new ways.
From the moment guests arrive, Riverbend aims to deliver a welcoming, family-oriented atmosphere that’s especially kid-friendly. The Kitts’ mission is simple: provide a place where families can unplug from the fast-paced world, relax by nature, spend time together, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
They envision Riverbend as a sanctuary where affordability meets togetherness, safety, and a shared love for the outdoors.
