The city of Hinton is providing a way for citizens to help clean up the town. With the help of REAP (Rehabilitation Environmental Action Plan) and the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, Hinton residents can take control of cleaning up their community.
To participate, stop by the Hinton City Hall during normal hours of operations and pick up some free REAP bags. Each person will receive three bags. Then, use those bags to clean up litter cluttering Hinton. Once the bags are full, they can be disposed of by placing them in the Hinton Police Department dumpster.
Consider sharing your story of cleaning up Hinton on social media using the hashtag #keephintonbeautiful. Other hashtags include #litterpickup #reap #dep #hinton and #exploresummerscounty.
In addition to this clean-up effort through REAP, there will be an event on Saturday, April 24 beginning at 10 a.m. There are two parts to the event, the first is a volunteer litter pick-up. This will further aid in cleaning the streets of Hinton from unsightly litter.
The second part is a drug take-back event. Any medication that is no longer needed or expired can be taken to the Hinton Police Department for disposal. Contact the Hinton Police Department for more information by calling 304-466-4657. Note that an officer is not always available. If there is no answer, try again after some time has passed. Another option is to send a message to their Facebook page (Hinton Police Department). Again, it may take a while to receive an answer as the page is not continuously monitored.
