Bobcats End Their Shortened Season Against Bluefield

The Bobcats traveled to the Brushfork Armory to take on the Bluefield Beavers on Tuesday, April 20th. The Bobcats had a great first quarter, keeping the score close. Unfortunately, the Bobcats fell to the Beavers ending their 2021 season.

All WV schools played a shortened season this year because of an order made by Governor Justice to delay winter sports due to COVID-19. The Bobcats did not play their first game until the end of February.

This was the last game ever for the three seniors- Levi Jones, Logan Fox, & Hunter Thomas. Two of these seniors are now on to baseball season. I spoke with all three of them in some fashion about their time on the SCHS Basketball team and anything else they wanted to add.

Jones said “I would like to thank everyone who has supported me the last 4 years, especially my parents. I would also like to thank my elementary basketball coach Gabe Massie for getting me into basketball at a young age. Fox and Hunch (the other seniors) are some great guys and I have enjoyed and will continue to enjoy hanging out with them. It’s been an enjoyable 4 years with everyone.”

Fox said “I would like to thank my family for getting me interested in sports while I was going to grow into the love I have for them today, and my coaches for making me not only a better athlete but a better person. The three seniors are some great guys and I wouldn’t have wanted to finish my basketball career with anyone else. I’m glad I’ve grown closer to Levi and Hunter and have made a lifelong friendship in the process of playing a sport we love. This being my last season is definitely sad, it has all just gone by in the blink of an eye. It’s so crazy, it feels like yesterday me and Hunter were playing against Levi in the elementary basketball championship game. Thank you to everyone along the way to the end of my basketball career.”

Thomas said “I wanna thank everyone for being there for me through this wild ride called high school. Lots of ups and downs during the duration of it. I wanna thank my parents for putting up with me through the things I have put them through. Levi and Logan will be some of my best friends for a long time to come. We’ve made great memories during our time together on the court that I will never forget. The last 4 years have been some of the greatest and I’m sad to say basketball has come to a closing and I’ll never be able to put on that Summers County Bobcat jersey ever again.”

Coach Bowling and Coach Hartwell posted on the SCHS Boys Basketball Facebook page on Tuesday night saying “The Bobcats season concluded tonight with a loss at Bluefield. We would like to express our appreciation to seniors Levi Jones, Hunter Thomas, and Logan Fox for their contributions to our program. Additionally, we would like to thank our parents for their support throughout the season.”
