CHARLESTON, W.Va. (The Hinton News) — Tickets are now on sale for National Hunting and Fishing Day, the state’s largest outdoor-focused celebration, which takes place Saturday, Sept. 19., at Stonewall Resort State Park in Roanoke, W.Va.The event will feature family-friendly activities, more that 40 outdoor recreation related vendors, and several wildlife-focused seminars.

This annual event, hosted by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources showcases the best of West Virginia’s hunting, fishing and outdoor traditions through family-friendly activities, live demonstrations and hands-on exhibits. The event will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with free parking and shuttle service to select activity areas.

“National Hunting and Fishing Day is a proud tradition that celebrates our state’s rich outdoor heritage and the dedicated sportspeople who help conserve West Virginia’s natural beauty for future generations,” said WVDNR Director Brett McMillion. “We invite families and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages to join us at Stonewall Resort State Park to experience the hands-on activities, traditions, and community spirit that make wild and wonderful West Virginia so special.” 

General admission is $10 and children 14 and younger get in for free. Those who complete an online ticket purchase by 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 18 will receive two complimentary sampling tickets for A Taste of West Virginia State Parks, a ticketed event that features samples of signature dishes prepared by state park chefs. This event will be from 1pm until 4pm inside the Roanoke Building. Additional tickets will be available for purchase at the West Virginia State Parks Mobile Gift Shop.

Additional featured events this year include an Outdoor Youth Challenge. Participating youth will be entered into prize drawings, including scholarships to Conservation Camp and a lifetime hunting and fishing license. Also returning this year is the Big Buck Trophy Wall.  Participants are encouraged to bring their big buck mount to be featured on the  wall and be entered to win a variety of prizes.
