Summers County Humane Society/ACWP volunteer Martha Braswell receives a grant from the Hinton Area Foundation’s Greg Vandall (left) for $1500 to support K900 field trips to take a van full of dogs to a local park, on a designated day, in the hopes of drawing out new volunteers to come and meet the dogs and give them some exercise. Christina Cochran (right) explained, “It’s hoped these field trips will result in some new volunteers for the humane society, some happy pups, and more community awareness of what we do. The funding will offset the cost of gas to get the dogs back and forth, as well as lunch and other supplies for the volunteers.  There will be future details on this program and when the first dog walks will be."

Left to Right: Chris Jr., Abby and Raelynn

TALCOTT W.Va. (Hinton News) – While it’s true that the backbone of a fire department is your most loyal members, it’s also true that the future lies with the next generation. Our children, who are growing up and learning how valuable volunteers are. Seeing Mommy and/or Daddy give their valuable time to selflessly ensure strangers are safe in their most vulnerable moments.

Talcott Fire Department is blessed to have firefighters with young children already showing an interest in following in their parents’ footsteps.

Talcott Fire Department is blessed to have a young generation, among them Christopher Summers and his children. Mom Kylie can also be found around the Department with baby Raelynn soaking in all the activities. Chief Bill Costomiris has been known to take a moment to say hello to the cute baby.

Chris Summers has been in the fire service for 16 years and brings Christopher, Abby and Raelynn to the department with him.

Christopher Jr. is completely fascinated with the fire trucks and told Hinton News that he will be joining the department as soon as he is old enough.  According to Mom Kylie, he wants to follow in his Dad’s footsteps. Kylie thinks it’s important for all three kids to remember what they grew up around, even if they don’t end up becoming members one day. She went on to say that the kids have the biggest hearts and love helping people. This was obvious as young Christopher jumped in and helped wash the trucks right beside the adults.

These wonderful young children aren’t the only ones associated with the Talcott Fire Department and others in the county. If you would like to see your children featured, please reach out to me at hintonnewsgurl51@yahoo.com.
