HINTON, W.Va. (Hinton News) – Summers County Comprehensive High School was evacuated Wednesday, May 14 following a reported bomb threat, according to school officials.
Authorities confirmed that all students and staff were safely removed from the building, and law enforcement remains at the scene to assess the situation. The school district urged the public to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
“Students have been evacuated. Everyone is safe. The police are present. Please do not come to the premises,” the school posted on social media.
Parents were notified by the district, though some reported receiving only a text message after the school’s social media post. A few families told local news outlets that they were not contacted by phone.
Students who attempted to return to campus were turned away and informed that the closure was due to a bomb threat, according to multiple accounts.
No injuries were reported and officials have not released additional details as of Wednesday afternoon.
