HINTON- Hinton’s historic hometown movie theatre was built in 1929 and restored in 2009. Located at 211 Ballengee St, in Hinton, still has much of its original character while offering a modern movie experience, including digital imaging and Dolby surround sound!
Today, The Ritz is showing current movies, hosting special events, and offering free community movie series throughout the year.
When you visit The Ritz, you’re supporting a local business and helping keep a nearly
100-year-old theatre active in downtown Hinton. They work hard to keep it affordable, so you don’t have to leave town to enjoy a big-screen movie. Just stop in, grab some popcorn, and enjoy the experience.
The Ritz history spans over many generations. Guests who visited as children are now bringing their own children or grandchildren.
It’s also unusual to watch a current movie in a theatre that’s been part of the community since 1929. The experience feels different from going to a larger chain theatre, and that’s something they are proud of. In the past couple of years, the local library has also started offering free craft activities before the free community movies.
Upcoming events in October include a special one-week-only re-release of 9 to 5 during Hinton Railroad Days weekend, October 9–12, with Disney donating net proceeds to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Then, beginning October 16, Verity, based on the novel by Colleen Hoover, will play at The Ritz for two weekends.
For a second year in a row, they will be offering a free Halloween movie every Thursday at 7 p.m. throughout October. The lineup includes Hotel Transylvania, Scream, Casper, Halloween and Monster House. Admission to the Thursday movies is free! Bring your family and friends, enjoy a movie on the big screen.
The free movie series will continue into the holiday season, with free holiday movies beginning on Thanksgiving and running through the end of the year—also on Thursdays at 7 p.m. Holiday movies have been a longtime staple with groups and families coming in to enjoy holiday favorites.
The Ritz offers affordable ticket prices: Regular movie tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and $4 for matinees. The Ritz invites the community and surrounding area to come to the movies and support their hometown theatre. October is a great time to visit!
The Ritz is getting close to their 100th anniversary in the community and are working to collect stories and photos from people who have memories of the theatre. If you have a story, photo, or memory you’d like to share, please email them to staff@ritzwv.
Support The Ritz Theatre and help keep it thriving for generations to come–whether you’re heading in for a new release, a free Thursday Halloween movie, or catching one of our holiday screenings.
