BEAVER W.Va. (Hinton News) – New River Community and Technical College is excited to announce the participating teams for the 7th Annual New River CTC Invitational, scheduled for January 6-11, 2025, at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center. This highly anticipated event stands as the college’s signature fundraising and community outreach initiative, bringing together outstanding co-ed basketball teams from around the state for a thrilling week of competition, community, and support for student achievement.

This year’s Invitational is set to exceed expectations, featuring an expanded lineup that includes more than 30 high schools and the first ever college game. The West Virginia Tech Golden Bears Men’s Basketball team will take on the Indiana University East Red Wolves in a highly anticipated River States Conference game.

“We are excited to expand our partnership with the West Virginia University system. “The New River CTC Invitational has become the cornerstone event for the college and the surrounding communities,” said Green. “It’s more than just a basketball tournament; it’s a celebration of teamwork, dedication, and community. Most importantly, it’s an opportunity to directly impact the lives of our students through scholarships and educational support.”

As part of the unwavering commitment to education, New River CTC Foundation will award more than $200,000 in scholarships this year, significantly contributing to student success and academic excellence.

Fundraising plays a crucial role in the success of New River CTC students, directly impacting their ability to access and complete their education. The funds raised through the New River CTC Invitational and other events are vital in providing scholarships and financial assistance to students who might otherwise be unable to pursue a post-secondary education.

In addition to supporting New River CTC students, the event also benefits participating high schools’ athletic departments and Project Graduation committees. A highlight of the tournament is the awarding of $1,000 to the “Most Outstanding Cheering Section,” encouraging school spirit and community involvement.

The tournament also serves as an economic boost to the City of Beckley and surrounding areas, drawing visitors and fostering community partnerships. Local businesses and organizations are invited to participate through various sponsorship opportunities, further strengthening community ties and supporting educational advancement.

Mark your calendars and join us January 6-11, 2025 at the 7th Annual New River CTC Invitational!
