HINTON, W.Va. (Hinton News) — A woman faces multiple charges including driving under the influence and child endangerment following a motor vehicle accident in Hinton, authorities said.
According to reports, on June 1, at approximately 8:25 p.m., an officer responded to 1331 Summers Street in Hinton for a motor vehicle accident involving a parked vehicle. Upon arrival, the officer reportedly observed another officer speaking with a woman identified as Rebecca Sue Jones, 57, of Huntington.
According to the criminal complaint, the first officer on scene informed the second arriving officer that bystanders and witnesses identified Jones as the driver involved in the accident. It was reported that Jones attempted to walk away from the scene and had to be stopped by the officer. Upon speaking with Jones, officers noted her constricted and non-reactive pupils, and she admitted to relapsing on heroin the previous day.
Following the administration of field sobriety and impairment tests, Jones allegedly displayed multiple indicators of narcotics influence. Additionally, she was found in possession of various pills, including Diazepam and Amphetamine/Dextroamphetamine, without valid proof of insurance for the vehicle she was driving.
Witnesses reportedly recounted that after striking the first vehicle, Jones attempted to flee but collided with another vehicle before eventually stopping and attempting to flee on foot with her 6-year-old daughter who was also in the car.
Jones faces multiple charges including DUI and child endangerment.
Jones was booked into Southern Regional Jail; however, at the time of writing, she is no longer listed as an inmate.
