Filing Deadline for Summers County Candidates Quickly Approaching

SUMMERS COUNTY W.Va. (Hinton News) – The deadline to file for candidacy for public office is rapidly approaching. All candidates for county office must file with the County Clerk by Jan. 27. For more information, call the Summers County Clerk at 304-466-7104.

A seat on the County Commission is open this year for Bluestone Magisterial District which includes Nimitz, Jumping Branch, Madams Creek, and parts of Avis. The County Commission is a six-year term.  The candidate must be a resident of the open magisterial district and be at least 18 years old. The annual salary is $43,096 and includes health insurance.

Sheriff is another position that will be on the ballot in 2024. The Sheriff serves a four-year term. Candidates must reside in the county in which they are elected and may only serve all or part of two consecutive terms. The salary for the Summers County Sheriff is $55,166.

All 100 seats in the West Virginia House of Delegates will be on the ballot in 2024. Candidates for state-level office must file a Certificate of Announcement with the Secretary of State’s Office. Summers County is represented by two Delegate Districts, the 40th and the 41st.  Candidates must know the correct district number before filing. The candidate must be a resident of that district. The salary for a West Virginia Delegate is $20,000. The filing fee is $100.
