SUMMERS COUNTY W.Va. (Hinton News) – It is 2024, and time for a new calendar. The CFM House Museum sells these terrific Almanac calendars as a fundraiser. According to officials, “We received our box of calendars to sell, and included was an interesting history.”
The creators of Ramon’s Brownie Calendars started in 1876 in Greenville, Tennessee. The company began as a medicine company. “The Little Doctor,” and “Ramon’s Remedies,” products were loaded onto rail cars or wagons for delivery to pharmacies across the country. The calendar was developed to advertise their remedies in the pharmacies.
Around 1950, the original almanac calendar was in more demand than the remedies. The company sold the medicine side of the business and concentrated on printing and selling the Almanac Calendars to businesses for their own advertising.
The first printed almanac appeared in Europe in 1457, but now you can have the 2024 version, which provides data on the rising and setting times of the Sun and Moon, the phases of the moon, weather predictions, best fishing and hunting days when to plant particular crops and more.
CFM House Museum is selling the Ramon’s Almanac Calendar for $5 at the Visitor’s Center on 2nd Avenue and Hair by Michael on 3rd Ave. You may also pick one up at the Museum by calling 518-423-0725.
