Melvin Edward Richmond, Sr.
Melvin Edward Richmond, Sr., 85, of Lockbridge, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023, at home surrounded by family.
Born June 10, 1938, at Meadow Creek, he was the son of the late Mose and Claress (Taylor) Richmond.
Melvin was a 1957 graduate of Sandstone High School. He was an active member of the Lockbridge United Methodist Church, where he served in many different positions. Melvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, farming, sawmilling, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a retired bus driver for Summers County Schools for 32 years, did carpentry work, and built several houses in the community. Melvin was always willing to help a neighbor when they called.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles (Bud), William (Haney), and Robert; and three sisters, Geraldine (Jim), Deloris (Toot), and Margie.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Shelva (Stickler) Richmond; children, Mary Martha, Eddie (Dee), Danita, and Beau Richmond; grandchildren, Travis (Keshia), Rose, Taylor (Deanna), and Courtney (Bill); step-great-grandchildren, Kole and Journey; sister, Carol Kelley; as well as a host of niece, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Services were 1 p.m. Friday, November 24, in the Lockbridge United Methodist Church with Pastor Ricky Henderson officiating.
Burial followed in the Richmond Cemetery, Lockbridge.
Friends could call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Taylor and Travis Richmond, Buddy and Marvin Plumley, David Moon, J.B. Berry, Dale Miller, and John Tabor. Honorary pallbearer was Garth Gunter.
