PENCE SPRINGS, (Hinton News) – Local police responded to a reported overdose in the Pence Springs area on Sunday, June 5. The call ended with Matthew Logan Danberry, 37, of Asbury, in custody.
According to the criminal complaint, An officer arrived and noted a pistol on Danberry’s hip. He allegedly told the officer that he had recently purchased the gun from a friend. After speaking with Danberry, the officer reportedly secured the firearm for his safety. Following this procedure, the officer conducted a weapons check. The complaint states that Summers County 911 advised that the gun was reported stolen.
The complaint further states that the officer arrested Danberry for possession of the stolen firearm. Allegedly, Danberry advised the officer, prior to a search of his person, that he had Methamphetamine. The officer reportedly located the container that held the alleged Methamphetamine.
According to a release from the Summers County Sheriff’s Office, it was “discovered that Mr. Danberry was prohibited to possess a firearm.”
Later, after opening the container, the officer allegedly found that contained a white crystal substance consistent with Methamphetamine. Additionally, the container also reportedly held three aluminum packets with a brown powder the officer believed to be Fentanyl.
At this point, the criminal complaint states the officer requested permission to search Danberry’s phone, which he granted. The search allegedly revealed text messages that were consistent with the distribution of illegal substances. One message, in particular, the complaint stated, detailed a possible drug transaction scheduled that same day.
At the time of writing, Danberry is in Southern Regional Jail. His bond has been set at $50,000.
