SUMMERS COUNTY, (Hinton News) – In a significant development for the Summers County judiciary, Judge Leigh Lefler has been appointed as the newest judge for the Thirteenth Circuit of the West Virginia Family Court. This circuit serves Summers, Raleigh and Wyoming counties. Lefler, known for her dedication to justice and extensive legal expertise, fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Louise Goldston. The Summers County ceremony took place on Monday, May 1.
With a distinguished career, Lefler has consistently demonstrated her ability to navigate complex legal issues with precision and integrity. She has litigated child abuse cases, juvenile cases, and domestic relations and has served on the State Bar since May 2003.
A graduate of West Virginia University College of Law, Lefler served as a certified “Guardian ad litem, a member of the West Virginia Supreme Court Advisory Committee for Family Treatment Court, and the Raleigh County Juvenile Court,” according to Governor Justice’s announcement.
Her dedication to the pursuit of justice eventually led her to serve as an assistant prosecutor. Lefler resides in Beckley. She serves on multiple boards including the Beckley Performing Arts Board of Directors and is associated with the Beckley Dance Theatre School productions, such as the yearly performance of The Nutcracker. Additionally, Lefler is a member of the Raleigh County Bar.
Lefler notes that she has been working on cases in Summers County for some time, but is excited to take on her new role as a judge.
