For many years, free, hot Thanksgiving dinners have been delivered in Summers County. They were suspended over the last two years because of COVID-19 regulations, but this Thanksgiving, deliveries will be resumed.
We, the people of Summers County have been blessed in many ways. We are surrounded not only by the beauty of our wildlife, rivers and mountains but also by the beauty of the people that live here. Our blessings abound, and Thanksgiving is a good time to acknowledge and appreciate them.
There are many ways to contribute. Please email Nancy at nbnorth@suddenlink.net or Cleo at cleomathews@suddenlink.net if you could help and you will be called back. Here are the things you might consider:
*We need more desserts. The best desserts to withstand the bouncing around would be cookies, brownies, fudge, etc. Crumbly desserts with frosting would not hold up. Please package your desserts in individual snack bags.
*On Wed., Nov. 23 at 11 AM, we need a few people to put together the small bags with a roll, the cranberry sauce and a dessert. Ascension Church at 5th and Temple.
*On Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, starting at 1 PM, we need people to come by Ascension Church (Fifth and Temple St) to help deliver meals.
*Financial help is always appreciated. Checks can be sent to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 345 Kelly St. in Oak Hill, WV, 25901. Please specify Community Thanksgiving Meal on the notation line.
This program was started by the Episcopal Church but quickly outgrew its resources. Now it is completely staffed by volunteers – individuals, churches and businesses. Starting in 2000, it has served thousands of traditional, hot turkey dinners for those who want them. This year they aim to prepare close to 3000 dinners.
It is always a blessing to share blessings. Thank you.
