ATHENS, W.Va. (Hinton News) – Concord University’s Office of Advancement recognized Foundation supporters and alumni at a “Toast to Your Generosity” event on Saturday, October 1 following CU’s 2022 homecoming game.
The “Above and Beyond” award was given to Dr. Kathy Liptak, Associate Provost and Interim Dean of the College of Professional and Liberal Studies. Dr. Liptak came to Concord in 2000 as an education professor and over the last 22 years, has served in numerous roles on campus. Dr. Liptak served as the chair of the division of education, library science & physical education, director of the teacher education program, coordinator for both of Concord’s education master’s programs, and led the accreditation efforts for the education department. She has also served as the lead on the university’s accreditation efforts through the Higher Learning Commission. Additionally, she supports Concord financially through regular contributions to the Foundation.
The “Volunteer of the Year” award was presented to Janet Conroy ’86 for her dedication to the Concord University Alumni Council as the chair of its Membership and Marketing committee, her devoted attendance to campus activities, and her service to the Concord chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha. Conroy is also a founding member and current President of the ASA Country Roads alumnae chapter.
The “Philanthropist of the Year” award was given to Donnie Holcomb ’79 for his service to Concord as a member of the CU Board of Advisors and as a faithful financial supporter. Holcomb has sponsored many Foundation dinners and contributed to projects including the Race to Resurface the Track campaign and the President’s House renovation project. He supports the CU Gap Fund and Pathways retention Scholarship and also started his own scholarship in honor of his family. Holcomb continues to invest in the future of Concord University.
The Concord University Alumni Association also recognized its 2022 award recipients that were announced in April of this year: “Alumnus of the Year” was presented to Dr. Brad Lane ’02, ’03; “Outstanding Alumnus” was awarded to Jeffrey Pack ’06; “Golden Alumnus” was presented to Margaret “Peggy” Edmunds ’54; and “Young Alumnus” was presented to Emily Fridenmaker ’12.
