NORTH CENTRAL, W.Va. (The Hinton News) – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), traveled to Buckhannon, W.Va. and Weston, W.Va. where she made stops focused on flood recovery efforts in the region.
During the visit, Senator Capito received a briefing from Region VII Planning and Development Council and local leaders, toured the Lewis County Board of Education, and discussed progress made in flood recovery efforts.
“It was good to be in Lewis and Upshur counties today to receive updates on flood recovery efforts. I have worked hard on the federal level to ensure our communities receive the critical disaster relief resources needed to rebuild and recover from the July flooding. The people of Lewis and Upshur Counties are resilient and that was certainly made clear today,” Senator Capito said.
Following the July 21-22 flooding, Senator Capito worked diligently to advocate for federal resources to help the community rebuild and recover. On July 25, Senator Capito and members of West Virginia’s Congressional Delegation sent a letter to the White House in support of the governor’s request for an expedited Major Disaster Declaration for the State of West Virginia, which was approved on August 3. On August 31, Senator Capito traveled to the region to assess the damage and visit with residents and volunteers involved in recovery efforts.
