Some dates throughout human history carry more emotions than others. Most of these dates revolve around travesties and wars. While September 11, 2001, is no different in this respect, it is the most recent. The terror attacks that befell the country that day took many lives; parents, children, and siblings. The death toll was incredible.
To honor all of those who lost their lives that tragic day, local emergency responders participated in a parade of lights on Sunday, September 11, 2022. Beginning at the Hinton Fire Station, police cruisers and all types of fire trucks lit the night with the bright red, white and blue lights that adorn their vehicles. All sirens were hushed.
Community members came out to watch the silent procession weave through downtown Hinton. A somber mood descended upon the small town. Though there was no breeze to lift it, the flag hung regally at half mast in front of the Veteran’s Memorial Wall.
For a few moments, the community of Summers County united in remembrance to honor the 246 plane passengers, 2,606 World Trade Tower employees, 343 firefighters, 60 police officers and eight medics who perished.
