Summers County Girls Pick Up Their First Win In Rogers Oil Classic

The Lady Bobcats picked up their third win of the season in the Rogers Oil Classic on Friday night against the Montcalm Lady Generals, making their way to the championship game.

The Lady Bobcats played great defense forcing Montcalm’s 25 turnovers.

Gracie Harvey led the scoring for the Lady Bobcats with 14 points.

Sullivan Pivont added 10 points.

Jessie Ward came off the bench and scored 10 points as well. Coach Chad Meador commented on the Lady Bobcat’s bench play in a post-game interview on Hinton’s WMTD 98.3 FM radio station.

“I was impressed with our bench play. Jessie Ward came off the bench when our two starting bigs got in foul trouble and she had a great second quarter. I can say the same for Abby Persinger. She came off the bench and gave us some great minutes.”

Meador felt that the teams aggression was there. However, he feels that they need to work on rebounding.

“First and foremost, I thought our aggression was there. Anytime we can speed up the game and still be in control, that’s a plus for us. We preach a lot in practice to try to get those natural traps and we were almost there.

As far as something we need to work on…rebounding.” said Meador.

The Lady Bobcats will play in the championship game Saturday at 7:30 against Riverview. Greg Rogers, President of RT Rogers Oil Company, will present the trophies at the conclusion of the championship game.

“It’s going to be a great game to watch.” said Meador.

Meador and WMTD sports announcer Stan Duncan, who conducted the radio interview, both expressed thanks to RT Rogers and the Rogers family for sponsoring the Rogers Oil Classic year after year in Hinton.
