The man shot by a Raleigh County Sheriff’s Deputy on Rural Acres Drive in Beckley died as a result of his injuries.

According to information provided by the Raleigh County Sheriff’s department, deputies responded to an apartment complex on Rural Acres Drive on Aug. 18 in regards to a complaint of indecent exposure.

Upon arrival, the suspect, Kevin Eugene Norris, 50, “became uncooperative, refusing to show his hands until he eventually produced what the deputy perceived to be a firearm from a holster on his side pointing it at the deputy.”

The deputy then fired his weapon, hitting Norris. Norris died from his injuries as a result of the incident.

While conducting an investigation, it was discovered that Norris had drawn a pellet gun, which resembled a semi-automatic handgun.

The investigation is ongoing and being conducted by members of the West Virginia State Police.

The deputy’s name is not being released at this time.
