MINK SHOALS, W.Va. (AP) — Two adults and a young child were found dead at a home in West Virginia, and a sheriff said it was too early to tell what happened.
The bodies of an adult male and female and the female child were recovered Monday at the home in the Mink Shoals area, near Charleston, Kanawha County Sheriff Mike Rutherford said at a news conference.
An infant girl was found still alive in the home and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The baby was in critical condition, Rutherford said.
The names of those involved were not immediately released. Rutherford said investigators were trying to determine what happened.
“It’s very early in the investigation,” Rutherford said. “I can’t tell you a whole lot.”
The sheriff said there was no additional threat to the community.
“It’s absolutely terrible just to see what one person will do to another, but when you have children involved, it makes it unbelievable,” Rutherford said. “And it really takes a toll on our detectives, our forensic people and the deputies. Just a terrible situation.”
