Women Of St. Patrick Hold Annual Potato Bake

Tradition is an important part of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church. Typically this is the time of year that the parish team would be gearing up for their annual “Lenten Fish Fry.” However, as with so many things traditional, COVID-19 has changed that.

We all are aware that the COVID-19 restrictions started at about this time last year. The team was able to have one successful Lenten Fish Fry in 2020. Unfortunately, the others that were scheduled had to be canceled. As the pandemic continues, and even though we are seeing some restrictions begin to loosen, the CDC guidelines make it nearly impossible to have the event again this year during the Lenten Season.

We do have faith that perhaps we might revisit the Fish Fry later in the year and possibly do one then. We certainly hope that at least we will be back on track with this tradition next year during Lent.

The Women of Saint Patrick have now turned to an event that can be completed within CDC guidelines and still serve the community one of the “traditional” items that Saint Patrick provides — an Annual Potato Bake. Routinely reserved for “Railroad Days”, the team is moving forward early this year and doing this on March 24. The event will be somewhat different in that it will be entirely pre-order and pick up or delivery. Hopefully, you have seen the flyers/order forms out in the community and have taken the time to complete one.

The offering includes a large, loaded baked potato with homemade desserts and a bottle of water for $10. The event will run from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Earlier orders are possible to accommodate those early lunch hours.

All items can be scheduled for pick up and/or delivery using the form referenced above. On the order form, you will have your choice of toppings, including butter, sour cream, steamed broccoli, bacon bits, cheese and chili. There will be a variety of desserts — please note on the form if you have any allergies to nuts.

Order forms can be picked up at the church upstairs in front of the main entry and can be dropped off there as well. Order forms will also be available in the community, from parish members or you can contact ontheriver67@yahoo.com to preorder.

The Women of Saint Patrick, along with the Fryers Men’s group, are happy to bring this event to Hinton. Please let us know if you have any questions and feel free to contact ontheriver67@yahoo.com. Thanks in advance for your support.

Proceeds will be used by the Women of Saint Patrick to help sponsor some of their community efforts in the Hinton and Summers County areas.
