The West Virginia Division of Highways has introduced a new online, interactive map that shows all of the current and planned road work all over the state for 2021, and displays projects in Hinton and Summers County.
Users can view any road in the state to find out whether there is road work currently underway.
There are several user-friendly features on the site including the ability to zoom in on any area or search for a specific address. There are also features in the drop-down menu to sort what is shown on the map.
Currently, there are six options available. The user can choose to see projects from paving and core maintenance to “Roads to Prosperity,” and bridge projects, and more. Each category, when selected, shows the work that falls under that description.
For example, the “slide” category only shows areas where a mud or rock slide has occurred and is being cleaned up. The “Roads to Prosperity” option only shows work that is being done under the Roads to Prosperity program. Another feature included in the interactive map is color-coding. Roads that have planned or existing road work are marked by different colors to indicate the type of work being done. The color pink is used to indicate patching or paving. Orange dictates where ditching will occur and green shows projects that have been completed.
The city of Hinton Government Facebook Page recently shared the link to the map so that residents could see what projects were coming up in the area.
According to the map, there are quite a few projects planned for the Summers County area. In Hinton, there is a plan to pave Temple Street. The map indicates that the project is set to begin on July 1 and end on October 29. WV Route 3/WV Route 3&12 is slated for patching between October and December. The area of CO 3-8-Camplightfoot is slated for July to October.
Multiple roads in Hinton are slated for either ditching, patching or both. This includes WV 3/Hinton Road, which is planned for April to June.
