It is that time of year again when high school seniors are applying for scholarships to help pay for a college education. While most national scholarships are well known, there are some local ones that may not be as prominently recognized. Here is a list of scholarships that Summers County students need to know about.
The Hinton Area Foundation (HAF) offers multiple scholarships. Each one has its own requirements and is a different amount.
There are scholarships through HAF that are specified for students who intend to major in elementary education at Concord University, one for students “whose plans include the care of animals,” for students entering the medical field and for those studying business. There are also many other options available. All are dedicated to students who either reside and/or attend school in Summers County.

Hinton Hope Foundation also offers scholarships specifically for Summers County High School students. Every year they offer either a single $1,000 scholarship or two $500 ones. There are no requirements for the school attended or major chosen. The membership reads each application and makes evaluations to determine who will be the recipient.

Another foundation that offers scholarships to local students is the Beckley Area Foundation. This foundation offers several, county-based scholarships including some just for Summers County students.
