The last year has been difficult for everyone. One complication that many people have faced is navigating school. Guidelines and regulations have constantly fluctuated and many have found it confusing and problematic.
With the recent announcement that students would be transitioning back to full-time, in-person instruction, some Summers County parents have taken to social media to express confusion over the current schedule.
Summers County Superintendent David Warvel provided clarification.
As of March 1, students in grades K-8 have returned to five days per week, in-person instruction. Grades 9-12 continue to operate on a blended schedule. Students in these grades with surnames beginning with A-K will attend on Monday and Tuesday. Surnames beginning with L-Z will attend Thursday and Friday. Wednesday will be a full day for students who are falling behind in any subject.
There are still three options for students. The first option is for total, in-person instruction. For grades K-8 this is five days per week. For grades 9-12 it is two days per week with students attending remotely on days when not in class. Meals are provided at the school for this option
Option two is remote/blended learning and is only available for students in grades 9-12. For this option, students remote class four days per week. To choose this option, students must have a minimum internet speed of three MBPS downloads and one MBPS upload. Students must maintain a “C” or above to remain in this option.
Meals are provided at the school.
The third option is virtual in-home learning. This option is five days per week and is available to students of any grade who qualify. Those interested must speak with their school’s principal to inquire about eligibility. Students must have a minimum internet connection of three MBPS downloads and one MBPS upload.
Teachers and content are provided by Summers County Schools through proximity learning. Meals are sent home every Wednesday.
