The long waiting list of people 65 and older in line to receive vaccines is nearing its completion. Health Department Administrator Chad Meador said the 284 doses of vaccine were given last week and he said everyone on the department’s list — 360 — residents will receive their primary COVID-19 doses by the end of the week. In addition, Meador says 60 boosters will also be administered. He reported that Summers County currently has 16 active cases of the virus and one death.
For 11 months Meador and his staff have worked diligently to keep the community informed, tested, traced, scheduled appointments and administered inoculations. The light at the end of the tunnel is growing closer every week.
“I’m extremely blessed to have a hardworking staff. Without them we could not get it done,” Meador said as increasing numbers of vaccinations have been given at community clinics in Hinton. “We have had a tremendous number of volunteers, new people, each week. Our partnership with the hospital has been tremendous, as well. We are ready to get it done.”
Once the health department’s waiting list is taken care of this week, Meador said the health department will start using Everbridge’s list of online registrations to fill the clinic.
At last report, the Summers County Health Department said three cases of the virus remain hospitalized and 648 cases have recovered, but the community has now lost 22 people.
