Summers County consists of a close-knit community. Within that community, some people touch the lives of more individuals than can be counted. One such person was DJ Pettry. He loved music and often used that to spread joy anywhere he could.
Unfortunately, Mr. Pettry recently passed away following a long illness and lung transplant surgery.
To give the most community members the opportunity to pay tribute to Pettry, the Hinton Hope Foundation organized a candlelight vigil that was held Monday evening, Dec. 28. A memorial was set up beginning Sunday, Dec. 27, at Hinton City Park Stage. The vigil also took place at Hinton City Park.
Pastor Robbie Merritt led the prayer at the vigil. He is also assisting with the funeral held at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlor on Wednesday, Dec. 30, for the family.
People attending the vigil were encouraged to leave photos, flowers, or other items on the stage to honor Pettry. Although, it is requested that any item left at the memorial not stick to the stage.
All COVID-19 guidelines were followed. Masks and social distancing were required.
