Three Rivers Youth Theater Holds Workshops

SUMMERS COUNTY W.Va. (Hinton News) – The Three Rivers Youth Theater program celebrated the end of its spring semester by participating in a workshop taught by Sherry Harper-McCombs, a resident costume designer and professor of theatre at Dickinson College. You may have also seen some of her creations at Greenbrier Valley Theater.

Each young actor picked a small prop to construct using brown paper, newspaper, cardboard, and wire. This involved creative problem solving as they had to determine the correct size and shape, plus the appropriate use of materials. Big shout out to Sherry Harper-McCombs for sharing her expertise with our program. Program officials said, “If we can’t find the right prop for the next performance, we’ll make it!”

For the summer semester, there will be no performance due to the number of participants out for camps and vacations. But, the group will be hosting two workshops – one on writing plays (writers of all ages are invited to join in) and one on public speaking, which will cover things like enunciation, projection and eye contact. They are still working on dates, but please follow the Three Rivers Youth Theater Facebook page for updates.

For the fall semester, the group will resume weekly classes on September 9. The next performance will be in November. Thanks to everyone in the community who supports this program.
