Everyone has been affected in one way or another by the events of this year. Unfortunately, that means that many people are still struggling to keep enough food and pay their bills. With the holidays quickly approaching, more families than ever are wondering how they are going to provide Christmas presents for their children. In an effort to help those struggling and spread some joy and cheer Talcott Fire Department has decided to host a community fundraiser.
This fundraiser is a food and toy drive. The chief of Talcott Fire Department, Bill Costomiris, says they are asking for donations to provide both food and toys to those in need. Anyone who wishes to participate has the option to donate a new toy or make a monetary donation for either a toy or food.
If someone wants to donate a toy, they need to contact Chief Costomiris at 304-712-0939 to arrange a time for it to be dropped off. It is not advised to leave toys at the station without letting someone know. Because this is a volunteer station, there is not always someone present and the items may be stolen or damaged before someone finds them.
Anyone who wants to make a monetary donation may do so by mailing a check to TFD Christmas Drive, Box 284 Talcott, WV 24981. The chief requests that the memo line be used to dictate whether the money is to “be spent for food, toys or both.”
The department is accepting donations through Dec. 12 after which they will purchase all food and toy items. Each family will receive a meal package put together by members of the department. The toys will be distributed appropriately.
For more information on how to get involved, contact Chief Costomiris or go to the event page on Facebook. The event is listed as “Talcott Fire Dept. Food & Toy Drive.”
