WV Walk With Ease 6-Week Arthritis Walking Program

Beckley, WV, November 2 — Active SWV invites individuals to participate for free in a 6-week walking program enhanced with healthy living lesson plans. This class will be led by Community Captain Levi Moore and Volunteer Director Erin Reid.

Walk With Ease is a CDC recommended walking program that helps people increase balance, reduce pain, improve mental health, and increase flexibility and overall physical health.

The Arthritis Foundation Walk With Ease Program is a community-based physical activity and self-management education program. While walking is the central activity, Walk With Ease is a multi-component program that also includes health education, stretching and strengthening exercises, and motivational strategies.

Walk With Ease is proven to:

Reduce the pain and discomfort of arthritis
Increase balance, strength and walking pace
Build confidence in your ability to be physically active
Improve overall health

All the lesson plans will be delivered online in a secure class setting. Participants can choose to walk on their own three times a week or join Levi once a week for an in-person walk in the Beckley area. Classes begin on November 22 with three lessons per week delivered online. The first hike, for those that can join in person, will be November 22 at 2 p.m. Safety guidelines are followed for physical activities and pandemic best practices.

Registration is required to prepare participant books, equipment and gifts. Registration closes on November 12 for the free online class and access to the material. Register at activeswv.org/wv-walk-with-ease-1/

Active Southern West Virginia is a non-profit providing an ecosystem of physical activity for residents of southern West Virginia by offering programs led by trained volunteers from within the communities they serve.
