Two public hearings conducted by the Summers County Board of Education last week led to a unanimous vote to close Summers Middle School. The present condition of the facility has made it an unsafe environment for students and staff due to mold and asbestos.
Principal Susie Hudson said “it saddens me to leave this educational facility, but the health and safety of students comes first. The high school administration and staff have welcomed us and continue to support our needs as we embrace this transition.” At best,” she said, “the students and staff have a newer and safer school for the 2020-2021 school term”.
