In an interview with The Hinton News, Summers County School Superintendent David Warvel said the Hinton Middle School is almost 100 years old and needs extensive repair and remodeling. The cost is projected at $4.6 million in repairs according to the School Board Authority. The Board of Education will have a special meeting on October 29 at 5 p.m. at the high school auditorium, and at 8 p.m. at the middle school gymnasium to discuss the closure/consolidation of the middle school facility.
The BOE voted earlier this year to have an emergency removal of students and staff to the high school because of the health and safety concerns. The public will have the opportunity to speak for three minutes at each hearing. Warvel said by state code, the public may submit any ideas, suggestions, and proposals to the central office in writing to him at the Board of Education building by 4 p.m. on Friday, October 23. This will give the BOE members time to read and review these statements.

Also, a decision has been made at the state level, to suspend and close the LPN program at Summers County High School. This decision encompassed many factors including duplication of services, personnel, and accreditation.
