The Hinton Wednesday Club has teamed up with the Summers County High School Future Farmers of America.

Club members Barbara Wilcox, Cathy Browning, and the FFA teacher Kathy Duffield have partnered on a community improvement project for the spring and summer of 2026.

For many years, The Wednesday Club has been responsible for the planters placed on the streets of the City of Hinton. The pots are planted with beautiful flowers for the warm seasons. During the cold months, the pots are filled with greenery and seasonal decorations. The Community Improvement committee includes Wednesday Club members Barbara Wilcox, Barbara Bowling, Cathy Browning, Barbara Parmer, Michelle Bowles, Donna Pivont, Wilma O’Brien, and Myra Ziegler.

This year the FFA students transported the planters to their work area at the high school where they were cleaned and repaired. The flowers the FFA had started from seeds were used in the pots which had been filled with soil and were readied for the young plants. The students then had to care for the plants in their greenhouse until they were mature enough to tolerate the weather. These stunning displays of their handiwork can now be seen on the streets of Historic Hinton. The Wednesday Club has a true appreciation for the hard work these students put forth to make this project and partnership come to fruition.

Funds from a MAD (Make a Difference) grant, through the Hinton Area Foundation, were used to cover expenses.

Rylan Berkshire has taken on the responsibility of watering the planters. The Wednesday Club would like to thank Rylan for taking on this chore. We would like to also encourage businesses with a planter near their location to aid in the watering, especially during very hot weather.

The Wednesday Club of Hinton, West Virginia was organized in 1906. Our motto is “Today is Your Day and Mine”.

“The Object of this club shall be to broaden and strengthen the cultural, social, and intellectual life of its members, and through them to make itself a power of good in the community.”

Our Legacy is 119 years of Friendship, Fellowship and Services.
