HINTON, W.Va. (Hinton News) — Brody, a 1 1/2-year-old mixed breed described as “smart as a whip,” is looking for a way out of the county kennels he has called home for nearly half his life.
After spending seven consecutive months in a confined kennel environment, the energetic male—suspected to be a Boxer or Mountain Cur mix—is in urgent need of a foster or permanent adopter who can provide the mental and physical stimulation he lacks in a shelter setting.
Volunteer staff at the Summers County Humane Society/ACWP note that while Brody’s long stay has left him appearing anxious and “wound up,” his true personality is that of a playful, water-loving companion.
“It’s hard to see his true personality shine through when he’s burning off pent-up energy,” a volunteer wrote in a recent appeal for the dog. “He needs someone willing to take on the challenge of engaging his brain and giving him some exercise.”
Key details for potential adopters:
Personality: Highly intelligent, loves playing with balls, splashing in water, and taking car rides.
Current Status: Has spent seven months in a kennel, which volunteers equate to roughly three years in “dog years” regarding the impact of confinement.
Financials: Brody’s adoption fee is currently fully sponsored, meaning there is no cost to adopt him for a qualified home.
Shelter representatives emphasize that Brody is “ready to learn anything you can teach him” and would thrive with an active owner who understands the behavioral toll of long-term sheltering.
Those interested in fostering or adopting Brody are encouraged to contact the Summers County Humane Society/ACWP. Supporters are also asked to share his story to help find a match for the long-term resident.
