U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) attends a ribbon cutting for Batteau Beach at Hinton Landing in Hinton, W.Va. on Friday, August 29, 2025.

HINTON, W.Va. (Hinton News) – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) traveled to Hinton, W.Va. to participate in a ribbon cutting for Batteau Beach at Hinton Landing, a redeveloped recreation area that includes a trailhead, river access and a kayak launch, a playground, shelter, and picnic tables. Senator Capito secured a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) award for the project.

“With today’s ribbon cutting, Batteau Beach is now officially reborn. This new attraction is a critical aspect in making Hinton a true destination that appeals to more tourists and visitors alike. I was proud to work along-side Mayor Scott in securing funding for this project through the Congressionally Directed Spending process. Initiatives like this have the potential to revitalize communities, create economic development, and improve the lives of our residents. Today’s event is a major accomplishment, and I look forward to seeing all of the ways families and visitors from all over enjoy wild and wonderful West Virginia,” Senator Capito said.

“Thank you to Senator Capito for her work to secure funding for Hinton Landing and Batteau Beach, which will allow our town to capitalize on the New River Gorge national park designation, grow our recreation economy, and enhance quality of life for the entire community – not just for visitors, but for all who all this place home,” Mayor Jack Scott said.
