HINTON W.Va. (Hinton News) – With many citizens wondering about the status of the paving project on Stokes Drive, the City of Hinton released the following statement:
The WV DOH has updated us on the forthcoming paving project scheduled for State Rt 107, which will include Stokes Drive, Pleasant Street to the Avis Bridge and circling around to complete the loop from Main Street back to Stokes Drive. The project is funded through 2024-25 DOH funds that were reappropriated to the DOH from the state legislature for paving projects. The project is expected to resume on Monday, April 21st, weather permitting. Milling asphalt will resume followed by the new pavement. Completion of the project is expected to take 8-10 days. There will be some minor traffic delays so please plan accordingly. The City of Hinton would like to thank the State of WV and the State Department of Highways for improving this important entry way into the city. The project is part of a plan of revitalization for Avis that will be followed by the opening of Batteau Beach at Hinton Landing (later this Summer) and a soon to be bid out sidewalk replacement project that will extend from State Farm Insurance to the Avis Bridge on both sides. The project should begin in Spring 2026. The new sidewalks will be complimented with historic lamp posts identical to what’s present in the Historic District. This 1.1-million-dollar grant to the City was provided by the WV DOH from federal funds dispersed to each state.
“These investments in infrastructure in the city are important for us to realize future growth and potential.” Mayor Scott
