HILLDALE W.Va (Hinton News) – A Summers County man was arrested after allegedly attempting to break into a residence and firing multiple shots through the front door. Summers County Sheriff, Justin Faris released the following statement:
On the 28th of March 2025, Deputies responded to a residence on Doug Craft Road in the Hilldale area of Summers County. The call was in response to a Norton Canterbury attempting to break into a residence. Upon Deputies arriving on scene, it was determined that Mr. Canterbury had fired multiple rounds through the front door of the residence in an attempt to gain entry. The residence was occupied by a woman who was in a relationship with Mr. Canterbury. Mr. Canterbury had fled to the scene prior to our arrival. Mr. Canterbury was apprehended on Brookside Drive in Forest Hill after Deputies were able to talk him out of residence. Mr. Canterbury was charged with the following:
1. Domestic Assault
2. Wanton and Endangerment
3. Firing a Firearm with 500 feet of a dwelling
4. Obstructing
5. Attempt to commit a felony
6. Destruction of property
We would like to thank the West Virginia State Police and the Hinton Police Department for their speedy response and their support in this incident. A lot of incidents of this magnitude do not end peacefully we are very grateful that this one did.
