HINTON W.Va. (WVDN) – The Summers County Historical Society will hold a public ceremony to induct five new honorees into the “Inspiration Gallery” at Summers County Comprehensive High School on Saturday, April 12, at 2 p.m. This is the second annual induction ceremony.
Inspiration Gallery honors individuals who were educated in Summers County and went on to be recognized nationally for their significant achievements. Five such individuals will be recognized this year.
While acknowledging those who will be remembered by history for their great success, the goal of the project is to make current students aware that they, too, can achieve great things—to inspire them to model their lives after these honorees who came from similar backgrounds.
Cotty Farley chairs the committee, which developed stringent criteria for selection and narrowed the nominees down to the final five who were chosen. Suggestions for future nominees will be accepted by the committee if they meet the criteria.
Dr. Ella Atkins, one of the honorees, will speak at the ceremony. She is currently head of the Kevin T. Crofton Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering and Fred D. Durham Chair in Engineering at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. She is world-renowned because of her work with drones.
The remaining nominees will be announced at a later date. All those interested in inspiring today’s students are encouraged to attend.
