HINTON W.Va. (Hinton News) – Almost 500 pounds of dog food was collected and delivered by local UPS drivers in a holiday food drive for pups and dogs in Summers County Humane Society care just in time for Christmas.
“Santa Paws aka our local UPS drivers made a special delivery for our pups in foster care,” according to Humane Society Secretary Christina Cochran. “This UPS detachment was able to donate to five local rescues/shelters this holiday season and we were grateful to be selected. We received lots of food, treats and blankets which will serve our dogs in foster care waiting to be adopted. We are so grateful for the support, and extend a special thank you to Rick Brown, who adopted a dog from us last year, for delivering!”
The humane society provides dogs with thousands of pounds of dog food in Hinton and Summers County foster care. According to the all-volunteer efforts, donations like this from companies and individuals are a huge help. Dogs and puppies are cared for in private homes to meet the demand for care. Cochran says, “Over the past year we have had seven to eight adult dogs at any given time and, if we have litters of puppies that number can be as high as 35 in foster care! In addition,” she says, “we provide support to up to five dogs in the care of the county’s animal control kennels.”
The Summers County Humane Society, also known as the Animal Control and Welfare Project, Inc. (ACWP) welcomes food drives and donations from local businesses and individuals throughout the year.
