ATHENS, W.Va. (Hinton News) – Concord Esports is working with the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) to bring the first multiple team Local Area Network (LAN) event to Concord University on November 9-10. The event is a two-day tournament with a maximum of 32 collegiate teams competing across three different titles — Rocket League, Street Fighter 6, and the brand-new release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. There are eight schools competing in Rocket League and Call of Duty, while there will be a hybrid 16-person tournament for Street Fighter 6.

Concord Esports Director, Austin Clay said the tournament is broken up with day one centering on round robin where all schools will play each other to determine the seeding for Championship Sunday, which will be a double elimination bracket to determine the champion for all three games. All 32 schools are competing for the ECAC Campus Series trophy and their split of the $3,000 total prize pool across all three titles. The action-packed weekend will be streamed on the Concord Esports Twitch channel, and spectators can watch in the Concord Esports Arena with paid admission.

Clay confirmed that universities attending the event thus far include Purdue University, Akron University, and University of Kentucky. Clay added that additional participating universities will be announced on the Concord Esports social media accounts. Lydia Fister, Assistant Commissioner & Director of Esports for ECAC, had this to say about the event, “We are excited and grateful for Concord University to host our second Campus Series Invitational. “This is the best part of the job. We are honored to be able to provide the opportunity for our members to compete in person, this is what it’s all about. We are ready to watch all the action unfold.”

Clay and his Esports Team are excited to host the event. He said, “Over the past five years, Concord Esports has expanded significantly, growing from an initial 18 students to now 77 students across 13 competitive teams and a production team. This growth has enabled us to expand our facilities, providing the space necessary to host the ECAC Campus Series Invitational on campus. This event marks our largest LAN gathering to date. Our goal is to highlight the unifying power of esports and its capacity to bring people together in competition, especially in Southern West Virginia. We hope this event will inspire high schools, colleges, and amateur leagues to consider hosting more LAN events across the state.”
