PUBLIC NOTICE – REMEDIATION ACTIVITY

The New River Gorge Regional Development Authority has requested that the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) facilitate an environmental cleanup at the Hinton Ice House building under the Brownfields Assistance Program.  The site is located at 508 Commercial Ave., Hinton, WV 25951. 

The building is undergoing remediation for reuse or redevelopment purposes.   Asbestos containing building materials were identified by asbestos surveys conducted at the property on November 8, 2017. 

The WVDEP Office of Environmental Remediation Brownfields Assistance Program, through the CERCLA Section 128(a) USEPA State Response Program, will fund the necessary abatement of the asbestos containing materials.  This abatement will be performed in keeping with all applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.

The property is currently vacant.

Proposed Cleanup Method and Methods to Control Possible Health Exposure:

All identified asbestos containing materials will be removed from the building and disposed of, in keeping with all applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations. 

Proposed Future Use:

The property is intended to be reused for commercial/industrial purposes.
