HINTON, W.Va. (Hinton News) — The American Brother Foundation will hold its third annual Sgt. Mecot Camara Memorial Ruck on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Bluestone State Park. The event will honor Sgt. Mecot Camara and support veterans and their families.

The weekend’s activities will begin with a spaghetti dinner and live auction on Friday, Oct. 4, at 5:30 p.m. at the Pipestem Ruritan Club. Dinner is priced at $20 and includes salad, spaghetti, dessert, and a drink.

Following the dinner, attendees can enjoy live music at Black Bear Grille at Pipestem State Park. The band Rock House Road will perform starting at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, participants in the Memorial Ruck can choose between two options: a 10-mile out-and-back ruck or a 2-mile loop ruck around the lake. The ruck begins at 8 a.m., and registration is $25 for adults and $5 for students. After the ruck, there will be a cookout and karaoke at Bluestone State Park at noon.

The weekend concludes with breakfast at Kirk’s Restaurant on the New River at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6.

To register for the ruck early, visit americanbrotherfoundation.org. Additionally, posters available on social media and posted locally include a QR code that will take you straight to the website.

The Sgt. Mecot Camara Memorial Ruck and associated events aim to bring the community together in support of veterans and to celebrate the legacy of Sgt. Camara.

American Brother Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The purpose of the foundation is to help military families. Some of the ways they support these families are through creating documentaries and providing scholarships.
