SUMMERS COUNTY W.Va. (Hinton News) – Warriors In The Field, an Elkins-based non-profit that serves veterans, visited Summers County on June 22 and 23 to take a deserving group of veterans on a New River float fishing trip. Organization founder, Dave Whittaker was joined by Army veterans Jeff Huey and Jim Brogan of Summers County, Joe Young and John Vaught of Fayette County and Jason Huffman of Randolph County.

The group was treated to a beautiful day on the water with New River Trophy Outfitters and floated from Meadow Creek to Glade Creek. During the first four hours, 115 fishwere boated. Then the group stopped for a shore lunch provided by New River Trophy Outfitters and was back on the water. At the end of the trip, they had boated over 250 Smallmouth. Fish were caught from 1 ½” inches( yes 1 ½”) to 19 ½”. The weather was great, the guides were great and the fish were cooperative. This was the best trip Warrior’s has had in 8 years of fishing the New River.

Founder, Dave Whittaker said, “We always look forward to fishing with Troy and the guys from New River Trophy Outfitters and today was an exceptional day. The accommodations provided by Gateway Gardens Getaway Properties, The Serenity Hideaway, were outstanding.”

Joe Young said of the trip, “I really appreciated this opportunity to fish with New River Trophy Outfitters and a great group of my fellow vets. The experience was awesome and I can’t say enough good things about Warriors in the Field.”

Warriors would once again like to thank the Lord for the beautiful day, Master Services Corporation of Elkins for sponsoring the trip, Gateway Garden Getaway Properties for the accommodations and New River Trophy Outfitters for putting us on the fish. Our greatest thanks go to the veterans who joined us on this trip, because, without your service, we might not otherwise have these opportunities.
